IntelliProp Announces Expansion of its SATA Products with the SATA Speed Bridge
IntelliProp, Inc., a respected player in the Computer Data Storage arena announced a significant expansion of its Serial ATA (SATA) portfolio with the introduction of the industry’s most versatile SATA Speed Bridge.
IntelliProp’s SATA Speed Bridge technology provides internal visibility to the frame contents. Thus the customer has the power to manipulate the frames on the SATA connection. One obvious, and currently most popular, application of the ability to intercept, analyze, or modify data as it passes through the SATA Speed Bridge would be data encryption. Other applications include data compression, and data correction/manipulation as data flows from one side to the next.
The IntelliProp SATA Speed Bridge is available for application within the Xilinx and Altera FPGA families and contains the following additional features:
- Provides backward compatibility by allowing users to connect their 3G components to a 1.5G host or device.
- The host and device connections are speed independent thus allowing for speed bridging on the SATA connection.
- Automatically performs OOB signaling and speed negotiation.
IntelliProp is hard at work on advancing its technology in this area and is currently developing the SATA 6G Bridge which will be especially useful to drive manufacturers to test their drives. Stay posted for further information on IntelliProp’s evolving technology in this area.
About SATA
The IntelliProp SATA Speed Bridge supports the industry proven SATA interface. SATA, a computer bus standard that primarily transfers data between a motherboard and mass storage devices has several advantages over Parallel ATA which it replaces including greater reliability, faster data transfer, hot swapping, and more efficient air cooling due to the thinness of the wires utilized. SATA is cost efficient and, therefore, heavily used in cost sensitive applications such as consumer products. As a storage protocol, SATA is used as an interface to storage devices such as Personal Computers, JBODs, disk arrays, multifunction printers, set-top boxes, and any other appliance that might require data storage for any length of time.
Several version of SATA have been released by the official SATA committee or “SATA Interoperability Organization” (SATA-IO). The IntelliProp SATA Speed Bridge is fully complaint to the SATA Gen-1 and Gen-2 industry specifications as released by SATA-IO.
About IntelliProp
IntelliProp, Inc., is a Colorado corporation that was formed in 1998 as an ASIC design and verification services company to serve the needs of the data storage Industry along the front range of Colorado. As IntelliProp’s founders had a great deal of experience with storage logic design for both HOST and DEVICE controllers, the company enjoyed great success in the area of storage design and verification. When the new transaction level verification movement began, IntelliProp developed an offering for verification I/P products. IntelliProp’s verification IP was recently wholly acquired by Cadence Design Systems.
With the combination of its expertise in the storage industry and its verification experience, IntelliProp began offering storage protocol verification I/P in 2003. IntelliProp’s SATA core has been verified using a robust test environment and has been synthesized and tested in an FPGA system. IntelliProp continues to make significant inroads in the data storage arena and has several products slated for expansion in the immediate future including the SAS core and related technology.
