IntelliProp Introduces SATA RAID 0 and RAID 1 Intellectual Property Cores
IntelliProp is pleased to announce an expansion of its SATA based portfolio with the introduction of it RAID IP Cores. As storage requirements and magnetic disk densities increase, the need for reliable storage solutions also increases. IntelliProp’s RAID 0 and RAID 1 IP cores, written in HDL, provide higher performance access to disks or uninterrupted access to data even with disk failure.
With the adoption of digital TV, photography, music and governmental requirements to retain data for longer periods of time, digital storage requirements are continuously increasing. In addition to the need to store more data, designers must ensure the data is available and reliable. Redundant arrays of independent disks (RAID) allow a way to store and recover lost data efficiently.
The IntelliProp SATA RAID IP is a hardware design block that accepts read and write requests and generates RAID-0 (data striping) or RAID-1 (data mirroring) traffic to the attached drives. The RAID engine introduces very little latency to issue commands and to transfer data between the SATA storage devices and the backend data interface. The RAID IP is designed to exist within a customer’s larger design to provide RAID-0 and RAID-1 performance advantages.

About SATA
The IntelliProp SATA RAID IP Cores support the industry proven SATA interface. SATA, a computer bus standard that primarily transfers data between a motherboard and mass storage devices has several advantages over Parallel ATA which it replaces, including greater reliability, faster data transfer, hot swapping, and more efficient air cooling due to the thinness of the wires utilized. As a storage protocol, SATA is used as an interface to storage devices such as Personal Computers, JBODs, disk arrays, multifunction printers, set-top boxes, and any other appliance that might require data storage for any length of time.
About IntelliProp
IntelliProp, Inc., is a Colorado corporation that was formed in 1998 as an ASIC design and verification services company to serve the needs of the Data Storage Industry along the Front Range of Colorado. As IntelliProp’s founders had a great deal of experience with storage logic design for both HOST and DEVICE controllers, the company enjoyed great success in the area of storage design and verification. When the new transaction level verification movement began, IntelliProp developed an offering for verification intellectual property (IP) products. IntelliProp’s verification IP was recently wholly acquired by Cadence Design Systems.
With the combination of its expertise in the storage industry and its verification experience, IntelliProp began offering RTL storage interface cores. IntelliProp’s cores have been verified using a robust test environment and have been synthesized and tested in FPGA systems. IntelliProp continues to make significant inroads in the data storage arena and has several products slated for expansion in the immediate future.
