SATA Bridge Platform IP Core

Silicon-proven, extensible SATA bridge platform combining SATA Device and SATA Host cores with an embedded processor for hardware-accelerated command manipulation, speed translation, and real-time data processing.

The IntelliProp IPP-SA143A-BR SATA Bridge Platform is an extensible, production-hardened IP core engineered to establish a high-performance bridging interface between a SATA host controller and an attached SATA storage device. By integrating both a SATA Device core and a SATA Host core alongside a dedicated embedded processor subsystem, the core enables real-time command interception, queue manipulation, and data alteration entirely independent of host software intervention.

Architected for maximum flexibility, the bridging interface allows developers to execute non-host-initiated command generation, hardware write-blocking, protocol translation, and custom vendor-specific command processing. The negotiated transfer rate on each SATA port operates independently, allowing host controllers and storage devices running at mixed speeds (1.5 Gb/s, 3.0 Gb/s, or 6.0 Gb/s) to communicate seamlessly without compromising line-rate throughput or power efficiency.

Featuring memory-mapped register sets for precise control and high-efficiency DMA engines for hardware-driven data movement, the IPP-SA143A-BR provides a complete, low-risk foundation for deployment in custom forensic, security, data-compression, and embedded industrial storage applications across modern FPGA fabrics and custom ASICs.

Features

  • Protocol Compliance: Fully compliant with standard Serial ATA (SATA) 1.5 Gb/s, 3.0 Gb/s, and 6.0 Gb/s specifications (SATA 3.3).
  • Independent Link Speed Negotiation: Dual independent link state machines allow host and target device ports to establish link speeds (1.5 / 3.0 / 6.0 Gb/s) independently.
  • Extensible Bridging Architecture: Integrated processor subsystem and hardware queues enable real-time SATA FIS parsing, command filtering, queue reordering, and response generation.
  • Hardware-Accelerated DMA: Dual memory-mapped register structures and DMA engines deliver direct, low-latency data movement between system FIFOs, internal buffers, and SATA cores.
  • Broad Operating System Support: Provides complete command set support for Microsoft Windows along with native discovery and communication stacks across Linux distributions.
  • Boot Device Capable: Native hardware and firmware support for boot-drive storage configurations.
  • Advanced Drive Management: Integrated handling for Drive Letter Persistence as a Removable Device, Vendor-Specific Commands (VSC), Safe Eject, and Write Protect functions.
  • Optional Performance & Security Extensions: Available with a direct hardware-only datapath (IPP-SA143A-1-BR) or inline hardware AES-XTS encryption (IPP-SA143A-2-BR).

Deliverables

  • Production-Ready Maturity: Extensively verified using a coverage-driven methodology in pseudo-random simulation environments.
  • Flexible Delivery: Fully synthesizable RTL optimized for clean timing closure across modern FPGA and custom ASIC architectures.
  • 100% U.S.-Based Engineering: All design, technical integration, and post-sales support are handled directly by our primary engineering teams operating out of our Longmont, Colorado facilities.
  • Defense-Industry Compliant: Development workflow and documentation adhere to standards required for U.S. defense, aerospace, and ITAR-controlled integration.
